Its currently still one of my favorite destinations.South Africa's second most populated city has so much to offer for a first timer or 5th time repeat visitor.
Cape Town
is Southern Africa’s most beautiful, most romantic and most visited city. Its physical setting is extraordinary, something its pre-colonial Khoikhoi inhabitants acknowledged when they referred to Table Mountain, the city’s most famous landmark, as Hoerikwaggo – the mountains in the sea. Even more extraordinary is that so close to the national park that extends over much of the peninsula, there’s a pumping metropolis with a nightlife that matches the city’s wildlife. You can hang out with baboons and zebras at Cape Point in the morning, dine at an Atlantic seaboard bistro for lunch, tipple at a Constantia wine estate in the afternoon and party the night away in a Long Street club. All in a Cape Town day.
Natural wonders:
Table Mountain National Park defines the city. But there are many other equally gorgeous natural landscapes within the park’s extensive boundaries. Cultivated areas, such as the historic Company’s Garden, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and Green Point Urban Park, Learn to surf; go hiking or mountain biking; tandem-paraglide off Lion’s Head; abseil off the top of Table Mountain – just a few of the many activities on offer.
Beyond the City:
Within an hour you can exchange urban landscapes for the charming towns, villages and bucolic estates of Winelands destinations, such as Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and even take a drive to the Cape peninsula to the nature reserve in Simons town .Enjoy a scenic drive to Boulders Beach through Muizenberg and Fish Hoek. Stop to see the penguins at Boulders Beach before heading to Cape Point, in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
Robben island:
Take a ferry ride to the famous island which was used as a prison from the early days of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) right up until 1996, this Unesco World Heritage site is preserved as a memorial to those (such as Nelson Mandela) who spent many years incarcerated here.
Townships:
If you’re into history, people and culture ,Cape Town’s townships have a rich and ever-evolving history. It would take days to learn about each township's fascinating political histories, its people, sample the food and partake in the many cultural and sporting experiences. An evening at Imizamo Yethu Township, in Hout Bay, is an opportunity for you to tuck into a hearty African dinner, during a fun filled evening with African music. Expect dancing and plenty of partying with the locals.
The best time for a Cape Town beach holiday is from late January to late April, the tail end of the city's dry summer months. Cape Town enjoys a temperate climate with warm, dry conditions from October to April. Take a peek at one of our many customizable tours to the mother city.
